Genesis 24:1-27

Genesis 24:1-27

This story from Genesis leads up to the marriage of Isaac and Rebekah, at least that is the way the heading wants us to see it. It is about a marriage, but the encounter is one of compassion and faith. As the servant prays that the one who offers water for both him and his camels, there is a young woman who only sees someone in need. She sees thirst of both men and animals. She draws enough water for them all. Later, she discovers who the person is and the request at hand. Her response is one of faith. She goes without hesitation to see what God is doing through Abraham and Sarah.

We have a lot to learn from this young woman. She is strong, faith-filled, and fearless. May we, too, see the world through the lens of compassion and faith.

Holy God, we pray that you keep us aware of the needs around us, strength to respond with compassion, and the faith to see where you may be guiding us. Amen.
