Isaiah 59:9-19 Acts 9:1-20

Monday March 27

Isaiah 59:9-19
Acts 9:1-20

There is something to darkness. It can be scary. If you have ever been in a situation when suddenly there was no light, you find yourself disoriented, confused, and as the Isaiah text describes, groping along. You find yourself reaching out for any tangible marker of where you are and a way of knowing which way you are going. In short, you find yourself very dependent on those things around you, many of which you never would have even paid attention to when things were completely illumined.

There may be a reason God uses darkness sometimes. God often speaks to people most tangibly when in those dark recesses of the soul. In those moments in your life when you feel lost and alone, in the dark, and start reaching out around you for any sign of where you are and where you are headed. There, in the darkness, as you reach out, you find God next to you. God’s presence is not always noticed in the light, as we tend to think we are just fine on our own.

When you find yourself surrounded by darkness, take a breath and reach next to you. You may well find God was there the whole time.

Almighty God, you come to us in the light of Christ, but remain with us in the darkness of the world. We thank you for your presence no matter what this life brings. Amen
