“Hear My Plea”

Saturday April 8, 2017 " “Hear My Plea”

Lamentations 3:55-56
55 I called on your name, Lord,
from the depths of the pit.
56 You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears
to my cry for relief.

Mark 10:32-34

32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”

It would be like receiving bad news. You’ve been told before but you just can’t believe it. You are told again and despair sets in. That surely must have been how the disciples felt as Jesus again shared the details of the path He was to take. I can imagine that the Disciples cried out for God to relieve them of this terrible burden. We, too, cry out for relief from those things that seem too hard to bear. For Jesus, the promise came in that last sentence " “Three days later he will rise.” The relief and the joy were hidden in those 5 words, for the Disciples and for us.

God of consolation, Stay with us through times of difficulty. Help us to remember that you know what suffering and despair feel like. Thank you that we are able to see that despair turns to joy in your risen Son. Amen
