Philippians 2:5-11

Philippians 2:5-11

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
But emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death---
even death on a cross.

This seems to be a very important passage: we need to be of the same mind as Jesusâ€"take the example of his humility and obedience as life lessons for ourselves.
God required sacrifices of Jesus--- obedience to the spirit of the law, not just the words of the law, and acquiescence to God’s will. Being humble and undemanding (like a slave) is a primary requirement.
Jesus did not exploit his relationship with God; he did not take advantage of others or behave as a king or superior by making demands or behaving in a selfish, self-centered, or self-righteous manner.
As God-loved humans, we need to serve God and other humans. We need to love and serve others.

Those who seek power and riches forget they can only serve one god; our God requires service and kindness to others.

Oh, God, help us find the path of service, obedience, and justice. Help us serve our church, community, and country on the path you have set for us. Help us to understand what you would have us do to obey your laws and follow the spirit of your laws and your son.

Thank you for loving us and showing us how to love one another,

Amen
