Isaiah 52:13-15

April 14, 2017 â€" “Confidence in God’s Promise”
Isaiah 52:13-15

13 See, my servant will act wisely;
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him-
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being
and his form marred beyond human likenessâ€"
15 so he will sprinkle many nations,
and kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.

Isaiah 53:12
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.

Hebrews 10:16-25
16 “This is the covenant I will make with them
after that time, says the Lord.
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”
17 Then he adds:
“Their sins and lawless acts
I will remember no more.”
18 And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one anotherâ€"and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

It was promised in Isaiah. He would bear our sins and die for our transgressions. In Hebrews the reality of that promise is described. No longer is sacrifice required as atonement for our sins. Not only can we enter the Holy Place but we can do it with confidence. Do we approach our faith with confidence? Our sins are forgiven! We are welcomed into the Holy Place as a member of the priesthood of believers. As we cling to that promise fulfilled, we should encourage and support one another in our faith.

Most merciful God, Thank you that you fulfilled your promise by sending Jesus to die as a final atonement for our sins. Help us to confidently come to you and share with others the faith that is in us. Amen
