Youth Gathering Thursday

We began our day excited to work, and sad that we were leaving Tanner behind at the hotel, with the second day of a bad migraine. When we had talked about WHY we were each here, being able to participate in the work day was important to Tanner, Leslie, and Natasha since they were flooded out of being able to help during their New Orleans trip. Tanner's words that day were "It felt like we didn't do what we came to do. That was the most important part."

After a long wait due to traffic issues, (more respectful patience from not only Grace kids, but every group surrounding us that day), we boarded one of many busses headed to a neighborhood full of families, both young and old. That neighborhood had also been a dumping ground for garbage, tires, car parts. There were vacant grassy lots where houses had been removed, shells of burned out houses with overgrown weeds across from well kept homes.

The stories we heard, the piles of debris we made working alongside 200+ ELCA members and neighborhood residents gave us a sense of community and accomplishment. We can't wait to share the stories with you.

We couldn't fix everything, but we made a difference. We'll be able to watch what happens to this nighborhood and these properties on the Loveland App: will they be knocked down, the land used for green space, urban farming, new homes? Will the homes be renovated? We'll share more with you this fall!
