May Update: Grace Kids Care will remain closed, with a planned reopening near the end of May/first of June, pending a change in the ever changing situation. GKC Families will continue receiving updated information.
Original Post: Due to the recent announcement by Governor Reynolds of a State of Public Health Disaster Emergency, concerns of multiple families and staff in high-risk categories, low attendance this week, increased concerns of community spread, and knowledge of an infected childcare worker at a school only a mile and a half away from our center, Grace Kids Care Center will be closed Thursday, March 19th through Friday, April 3rd. We will plan to reopen April 6th but will be reassessing as the situation continues.
This is a pre-emptive closure and we do not have any known cases of covid-19 in our center.
Please know this is not a decision that was taken lightly. I have always shared with others that the biggest strength of Grace Kids Care is that this community feels so much like family. Children, staff, and parents of GKC have strong relationships and care deeply for one another. We feel it is our responsibility to keep this childcare family safe, which means limiting exposure to the virus as much as we can. While we are aware that DHS is not mandating closures at this time, they are also recommending social distancing policies that do not seem possible for the ages of children in our care, such as maintaining a distance of 6 feet at all times. Rather than continuing with business as usual until we are forced to close because someone we love gets sick, we are doing our part to ensure that all of our children and their families are kept safe.
We are aware that social isolation can be emotionally and mentally difficult. We have created a Facebook group for GKC families and staff, so that we may offer one another support, share home learning resources, connect those in need of emergency childcare with individuals able to help, and continue to be the GKC family that we know and love.
Please reach out to me or Pastor Mike if you have any concerns or find yourself needing support. We are here to help in any way we are able.
Thank you,
Mary Edwards, director
