God’s Work Our Hands update!

God’s Work Our Hands

It’s an exciting time of the year – little ones are headed back to school, education hour is kicking off, and it’s also time for “God’s Work Our Hands” day on September 11th! This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. Our service project will take place in three parts, moving our annual service event to year-round opportunity with long lasting impact.

Before the event: Bring in shelf stable food and toiletries. Let’s fill the chancel in front of the altar as a visual reminder of the need and of the abundance we are called to share! Items needed include: Canned food such as soup, fruit, vegetables, stews, tuna fish, etc. Peanut butter, pasta, crackers, and snacks. Toiletries can include feminine hygiene products, toothpaste and floss, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, deodorant, and other similar items.

Not a shopper or you would like us to be able to purchase needed items on the day of the event? It’s easy! Place an offering in the plate on Sunday and write “food pantry” in the memo of your check or envelope. For online giving, there’s a dropdown for “food pantry.” Checks can also be mailed to the office.

Be sure to sign up to let us know you are coming so we can plan for our outdoor meal together! There’s a paper sign up in the Gathering Hall, email [email protected], or call the office at 515-276-6873 and let us know how many adults and kids are coming.

The day of the event: Teams of volunteers will work together to build shelves in the backstock room, shop together for additional items, organize the items in the backstock pantry, cook a meal, and more! We will worship outside at 9am, get to work, then re-gather outside for fun and food.

After the event: Continue to bring in non-perishable and financial donations for the food pantry. Volunteers and ministry teams are encouraged to sign up for a weekly slot to swing by Grace to restock the Little Food Pantry.
