Lenten Small Group Study

enten Small Group Study Dialogues On: Race
If you are interested in a being a part of this study contact Ellen ([email protected]). The deadline to sign up is Feb. 1 so we can ensure materials arrive on time.

This Lent we are going to gather virtually for small group study around the topic of Race.
In this course your small group will discuss various issues related to race. Each week, your group will spend time sharing perspectives on what you’ve read. You’ll have time to explore your ideas as a group, and time to process your ideas with a partner. You’ll work together to create an action plan that fits your context. Then you’ll take all of that with you, into your jobs and homes and holiday dinners, and offer an alternative to conflict and division, you’ll offer dialogues.

Each week’s chapter is written by a different author, and includes a short video with several speakers. Some of the issues include: History and the Social Construct of Race; The Bible and Race in America;  Anti-Blackness, Oppression, and the Dehumanization of Black Bodies; Christianity and the Erasing of Native American Stories; Race, Gender, and the Intersecting Nature of Oppression; American Religion in Black and White; The Problem with Racial Reconciliation. You can find more information by following the link above.

The cost is $5 for the materials and groups will be via Zoom at a time to be determined by group leaders and members once groups are assigned. Do not let the cost of materials keep you from committing to be a part of this important conversation, there is money available to help cover the cost of materials.

Times and dates are not yet set, and we will give groups some freedom in deciding when to meet but there will likely be a Wednesday evening and Sunday late morning/early afternoon option. Each group will begin the week of February 14 with a gathering and making of a covenant, and begin with the first of 7 chapters the week of February 21. We will break for Holy Week and Easter, then finish the final two chapters.
